Went to a con panel about recaps and left feeling weird about filler
Last month I sat in on a panel at Anime Boston where they broke down how long a season spends on recap episodes, and this one guy pulled up numbers showing some classic shows waste like 15 to 20 percent of their runtime on flashbacks. I used to skip filler without thinking, but hearing the panelists argue about whether that content shapes how we see characters later got me curious. So I went back and rewatched a few arcs from an old favorite, the one with the tournament that drags for 8 episodes, and I noticed the repeated scenes actually built tension I'd forgotten about. Now I'm torn, do you guys skip filler entirely or does it ever add something for you? What's the worst offender you've sat through? Has anyone else changed their mind on this after a rewatch?
