Told my friend Gundam is just toy commercials, he changed my mind
Was hanging out with my buddy Kevin last Saturday at his place in Austin, and he put on Iron-Blooded Orphans. I always said Gundam was just a 40 minute ad for model kits, but he walked me through the whole story about child soldiers and corruption. The way he broke down how the mech fights actually mean something to the characters made me see it different. Anyone else have a friend who made you rethink a whole genre?

Hang on, wasn't Iron-Blooded Orphans the one with the kid pilots? I'm pretty sure child soldiers have been a core Gundam thing since the very first show in 1979. Amuro was 16 and forced to pilot the Gundam because everyone else was dead or useless. So your friend didn't really walk you through anything new, he just showed you how Gundam has always been dark from the start.

Nope, you're spot on. Kid pilots have been the whole point since day one.
