Showerthought: Dubbed vs Subbed debate at my anime club got WAY out of hand

Last month at the local meetup in Portland, someone said dubs are 'fake anime' and a guy literally walked out. I tried to calm things down by saying both have their place, but people got even louder. Now the club is split into two groups that refuse to sit together. Has anyone else had a simple opinion turn into a full blown argument like this?

2 years ago I said I preferred the English dub of Cowboy Bebop and my best friend didn't talk to me for three months. We finally made up when I admitted I only said it to annoy him and I actually watch everything subbed.

honestly though i think the dub is actually better for cowboy bebop. steve blum's spike just has this effortless cool that the japanese va doesn't quite nail, and I've watched both.
