Remember when anime forums had actual discussions?
I was scrolling through MyAnimeList the other day and realized I haven't had a real back-and-forth convo about a show in years. Back in 2012 on the old AnimeSuki boards, you'd get like 20 replies debating character motives, now it's mostly just upvote gifs and one-liners. Kinda makes me miss the days when someone would write a whole essay about why Lelouch was wrong in episode 22. Anyone else feel like the community shifted away from actual talking?

Man, you're making me feel old just reading this. I remember when AnimeSuki threads would have people arguing for pages straight about whether Light Yagami was a god or a clown. Now you post a hot take and you get three people posting the same gif of a character shrugging. Guess we traded depth for convenience, which is just modern internet in a nutshell. Your mileage may vary, but I think the shift happened when everyone moved to Discord servers and just screamed into the void. At least back then you knew someone actually read your paragraph about Guts' trauma because they'd quote specific lines back at you. Now it's just like "lol nice opinion, anyway here's this meme I found.

Honestly, is it really that deep? People type walls of text about anime characters like it's a college thesis, but at the end of the day we're all just arguing about cartoons. Feels like some folks just want to feel smarter than everyone else by writing a novel.
