Rant: People keep calling Erased a time travel show
Every time I mention Erased someone says it's a time travel anime and I swear they missed the whole point. It's a mystery thriller with a memory mechanic, not Back to the Future. Why do people keep labeling it wrong?

Come on, its literally a time travel show. Dude gets sent back to his childhood body with all his adult memories. He uses that knowledge to prevent a murder. That's like the textbook definition of time travel. The fact that its triggered by a specific memory thing instead of a DeLorean doesnt change what it is. Satoru literally goes back and forth between timelines trying to fix things. Thats the whole plot.

Jumping right in with my two cents here. In my experience, calling it just a time travel show kinda undersells what makes it special. The whole memory trigger thing is more like a gimmick, but the heart of it is really about that emotional pressure of trying to save someone you failed before. Like, yeah he goes back, but the murder mystery gives the time travel weight and consequence. Without that murder to solve, he'd just be a dude awkwardly reliving his childhood for no real reason. So for me, its both, but the mystery is what gives the time travel a purpose.
