PSA: guy at the Houston con told me subs are the only way to watch anime and I still think he's wrong
So this happened at Anime Matsuri back in April, I was sitting in the food court area killing time before a panel and this dude next to me saw my phone screen showing a dub episode of Frieren. He laughed, actually laughed out loud, and said "dubs are for people who can't read" like it was the funniest thing ever. I stayed polite and asked him if he spoke Japanese and he goes "no, but I read fast." That bugged me because reading fast has nothing to do with it, a good dub lets you actually watch the animation instead of your eyes glued to the bottom of the screen. I grew up on Toonami dubs in the early 2000s so maybe I'm biased, but I've since watched the same show both ways and I honestly caught more visual detail with the dub. He also claimed no dub has ever been good, which is just flat wrong, and I gave him Cowboy Bebop as an example and he changed the subject. Has anyone else run into this crowd at cons, or is it just me who thinks subs vs dubs is a dead argument at this point?
