My brother called my favorite anime a 'comfort blanket' and it stung a little
He said I just rewatch 'Spy x Family' for the predictable warmth, not the story, which made me question if I avoid new shows because I'm scared they'll disappoint. Does anyone else get stuck in a rewatch loop instead of trying something unknown?

Rewatching Spy x Family for the comfort is a totally valid way to enjoy it. Your brother might not get that a reliable happy ending IS part of the story.

You know, my friend was in a really bad spot last year after her dad passed away. She told me she just kept the show on repeat in the background for weeks. It wasn't about the plot twists for her at all... it was just knowing that the Forgers would be okay and together at the end of each episode. That sameness was the whole point when her own life felt so broken. She didn't need suspense, she needed that safe feeling. So yeah, your brother really doesn't get it if he thinks the comfort isn't the main draw for some people.

Exactly! That safe feeling is the whole point for a lot of people. Why do you think some stories need constant drama to be good? Isn't it just as hard to write a show that makes people feel warm and secure every single time?
