I was reading a thread about filler episodes and someone said they're 'the real story'

I was scrolling through a forum last night and saw this one comment that really stuck with me. The person said they think filler arcs in long shows, like the ones in Naruto, are where you actually get to know the characters as people. They argued that without the filler, it's just a constant fight scene. I'd always skipped filler, but that made me go back and watch the 'Kakashi's Mask' bit. It was pretty funny and did feel more relaxed. Has anyone else changed their mind about filler after a specific comment like that?

Totally jumped on board with that same idea. I went back and watched the whole "Power" filler arc in Naruto because someone said it makes the Sasuke vs Naruto fight hit harder. They were right, seeing them just be dumb kids makes the later stuff way more painful. It's like the show takes a breather and you actually care about them as people, not just fighters.

That's a good point, but filler episodes are usually written by different people. The canon story is where the original creator shows you who the characters are.

Yeah I never thought of it that way, but nina_harris is right.
