I spent 3 hours looking for a specific anime ED from 2003

I was trying to find the ending theme for this old mecha anime I watched as a kid, and I knew it had a really specific piano riff in the first 10 seconds. I thought I remembered the show was called 'Gunparade March' or something close, but I kept typing in wrong titles on YouTube and getting nothing. After about 2 hours of digging through old forum lists from 2004, I finally found it by accident on a random MyAnimeList thread about obscure OVAs. It ended up being from 'Kikou Sennyo Rouran' and the song is 'Hikari no Kawa' by someone I never heard of. Has anyone else ever spent way too long hunting down a single track from some forgotten anime?

Oh man, that piano riff thing is super relatable. I once spent a whole Saturday chasing down a song from "Blue Gender" which is a 1999 mecha show, not 2003 like yours. The ending theme is "Toki no Sabaku" by Tomohiko Kira, but for the longest time I kept mixing it up with a track from "Gasaraki" because both have that eerie synth intro. What really threw me was that the version on the actual DVD had a longer instrumental bridge that wasn't on any streaming site, so I had to rip it from an old torrent that only had like 2 seeders. You got lucky finding it on a forum thread, those old OVA discussions are usually a graveyard of dead links.

Yeah that blue gender song is a beast to track down. I found a cleaner version of mine on some Russian site with google translate.
