I spent 2 years skipping the OP and ED of every anime until my buddy called me out
Was watching One Piece with my friend Dave last month and he hit pause like 10 seconds in. He asked why I was skipping the intro and credits every time. Told him I just wanted to get to the actual show. He looked at me like I had three heads and said 'dude you're missing the whole vibe.' Turns out half the reason I love certain shows is the music and the mood those songs set. I went back and watched the intros for stuff I finished years ago and felt like an idiot. Anyone else skip them on autopilot?

the lyrics spelled out all the character motivations" - yeah that hit me hard too lol. When I finally stopped skipping, I realized so many shows literally spoil their own plots in the songs if you pay attention, but it feels different when you catch it naturally vs just reading a summary online. What worked for me was making a rule: let the OP play at least once per binge session, especially if it's a new season. It's wild how much extra meaning those sequences gain once you connect the lyrics to what actually happens later in the episode.

Jumped back into an old show I loved as a kid, like ten years later, and skipping the intro made me miss that the song basically told you everything that was gonna happen that episode. The lyrics spelled out all the character motivations and the animation showed key fights before they ever aired. Felt like I was watching highlights of a game I already knew the score to, just backwards. Now I let them play and pick up on little hints I never caught before, makes the show deeper.
