Heard a guy at the con say 'all shonen is the same' and I just froze
He was going on about power-ups and tournament arcs for like five minutes straight. Does anyone else get tired of that kind of surface-level take?

But what if he's got a point? A lot of those shows really do follow the same basic recipe on purpose. It's a popular formula because it works for that audience.

Yeah it's a popular formula, but @the_ray, is that really a bad thing? They're just making shows people like to watch. It's not that deep.
