Heard a guy at the con say 'all shonen is the same' and I just froze
He was going on about power-ups and tournament arcs for like five minutes straight. Does anyone else get tired of that kind of surface-level take?

But what if he's got a point? A lot of those shows really do follow the same basic recipe on purpose. It's a popular formula because it works for that audience.

Yeah it's a popular formula, but @the_ray, is that really a bad thing? They're just making shows people like to watch. It's not that deep.

But what's the line between giving people what they want and just churning out the same thing over and over? @the_ray, you said it's a popular formula because it works, but doesn't that kinda make the whole industry lazy after a while? Audience might like it, but they don't know what they're missing either.
