Friend swore by watching dubbed anime for years, then I finally tried subbed after a bad experience
My buddy Jake kept telling me that dubbed was the way to go because he could multitask while watching. I went along with it for like 2 years until we watched Attack on Titan and the English voice acting completely ruined a huge emotional scene for me. Switched to subbed the next day and the performance hit way harder with the original Japanese actors. Has anyone else had a debate like this where your friend's advice ended up being off base?

Honestly, I gotta disagree, lots of dub performances are actually solid.

Holly says "lots of dub performances are actually solid" like that's some hot take nobody's ever heard before. Yeah, some dubs are fine. Some are even great. But let's be real, we've all sat through that one dub where the voice actor sounds like they're reading lines off a grocery list while their soul slowly leaves their body. It's a coin flip at best. So sure, "some are solid" is technically true in the same way "some traffic jams are short" is technically true.
