Finally decided to watch the original 'Legend of the Galactic Heroes' over the remake
Honestly, I've been putting this off for like a year because the choice felt huge. It was either the 110 episode OVA from the 80s or the newer 'Die Neue These' series. I picked the old one last week, even though the art is dated. Tbh, the first few episodes were a bit slow, but by episode 10, I was totally hooked on the politics between Reinhard and Yang. The depth is just crazy. Ngl, reading the subtitles for such long conversations is work, but it feels worth it. Has anyone else made this choice and stuck with the classic version? How did you find the pacing?

The old OVA's soundtrack is a huge part of the vibe that gets overlooked. The classical music choices, like using Dvorak's "New World Symphony" during certain fleet battles, adds a layer of weight the new version's score just can't match. It makes the space opera feel more like a historical epic, which fits the story perfectly. That alone made the dated art style worth it for me.

Honestly @leebrown, do you think the new score tries too hard to be exciting? It feels like generic action music now, but the old classical picks made those scenes feel important, not just loud. That's a way bigger loss than the animation.
