DAE get annoyed when people call any cartoon 'anime'?

I saw a thread last week where someone called Avatar: The Last Airbender an anime, and a bunch of people agreed. That's just wrong. Anime specifically means animation from Japan, not just any show with a certain art style. I learned this from a panel at a con in Atlanta two years ago. It matters because it erases the cultural origin of the medium. Has anyone else had to correct this a lot lately?

Watch the whole internet fight over the word "anime" for the millionth time. It's like watching someone try to explain why a hot dog isn't a sandwich at a cookout, everyone just gets mad. Honestly, call it a cartoon if you want, but good luck telling that to a room full of fans who have very strong feelings about their specific words. This debate is the online version of poking a hornet's nest with a stick.
