A guy in a Discord call ripped apart my top 10 list and it actually fixed how I rank shows
About 3 weeks ago I posted my top 10 anime list in a small Discord server and one guy named Marcus just destroyed it, not in a mean way but he asked me one question that stuck: 'what does each show actually do better than the others?' I realized half my list was just stuff I watched in high school and never thought about again. So I rebuilt the whole thing and forced myself to write one line for each show about what it beats everything else at, like dialogue, fights, pacing, whatever. Turns out I dropped 4 shows off the list because I couldn't come up with anything real for them. It felt bad at first but also kind of great because now when someone asks why a show is on my list I have an actual answer instead of 'it's just good.' My new rule is if I can't say in one sentence what a show does best, it doesn't make the cut. Curious if anyone else ranks stuff this way or if I'm just overthinking my list now.
