Took me 2 hours to find a bad splice in a finished basement yesterday

Was working a job in Maplewood, everything tested fine until I powered up the panel. Turns out the previous guy had a splice buried in the ceiling drywall that finally gave out. Anyone else run into shoddy work that makes you question how some people stay in business?

Oh man, "buried in the ceiling drywall" - that hits home. I found one in a finished attic last month where they had a junction box completely covered over with spray foam and then drywalled on top of it. The homeowner said the lights flickered for years before the thing finally melted. I still don't get how some guys sleep at night knowing they left crap like that behind. Makes me wonder if they even had a license or just watched a few YouTube videos and called themselves an electrician.

Wait, did you used to think burying splices was fine?
