TIL zip tying my panel wires into neat bundles made a service call take 40 extra minutes
I used to be the guy who made every panel look like a magazine photo, wires combed flat and tied down every 2 inches. Last month I went back to a house I wired in 2023 and couldn't chase a zone fault without cutting 6 zip ties just to move one wire, and the whole thing ran 40 minutes longer than it should have. After that I pulled every bundle apart and started leaving a lazy loop of slack on each run instead. Now I can trace a bad zone in like 5 minutes flat. Does anyone actually like tight bundles, or are we all just doing it because that's how the old timers showed us?
