Remember when every panel had a dedicated phone line?

I was cleaning out a storage unit for a client in Omaha and found a stack of old 4-wire phone cord reels from a 2008 install. Now everything's on a $15 cellular dialer or Wi-Fi, and the whole job takes half the time. Anyone else miss the simplicity of just wiring a dedicated line, even if it was a pain?

Wasn't 2008 already all about cellular takeover? Those reels were probably leftover from a retrofit. I don't miss fighting with the phone company for a clean line at all.

Yeah, those reels are still good for something. I keep a few around for testing panels on the bench, saves buying new jumper wire. @lucas972 is right about the fight with the phone company, but I did like knowing the line was physically there and not dropping because of a weak cell signal.
