Panel beeping at 2am in a rental on Oak Street, do you pull the battery or call the tenant first?
Last Tuesday I was finishing a panel swap in a duplex over on Oak Street when the tenant called me at 11pm saying the keypad was chirping every 30 seconds. I had put in a new board that afternoon and the backup battery was reading 11.4 volts, which is low enough to set off a trouble beep. I drove back over there at midnight, pulled the battery lead, and the beeping stopped, but now the system has no backup if the power blinks. Here is the debate I keep having with myself: do you just pull the battery and tell the tenant it is fine for now, or do you eat the drive time and swap in a fresh 12 volt 7ah that night? I pulled it because I did not have a spare in the van, and the tenant was cool about it. My old lead guy would say never leave a can without a battery, period. But honestly a 2am chirp is worse than a small gap in coverage for one night. Where do you all land on this, pull it and come back, or keep spares stocked so you never have to choose?
