Overheard a guy at the supply house say his radio signals kept getting blocked by metal roofs

I was grabbing some batteries yesterday and this older installer was telling the counter guy he spent 3 hours on a house in Denver trying to get a wireless sensor to link up. He finally realized the entire attic was lined with foil-backed insulation. I felt bad for him but it reminded me to always check the building materials before promising a quick wireless install. Has anyone else run into a weird material that killed your signal strength?

Moved to external antennas, worked through two metal roofs so far.
