Lost a full afternoon to a wireless sensor that was never in pairing mode

Spent like 4 hours last Tuesday troubleshooting a Honeywell 5800 that wouldn't enroll, swapping batteries, moving the panel, the whole deal. Turned out I left the sensor in the box with the tab still in, so it was never actually powered on. Felt pretty dumb, but has anyone else burned a ton of time on something that basic before I check?
