I finally stopped mounting keypads right next to door frames after 10 years

I always slammed them in like 2 inches from the frame because it looked clean, but last month a customer's kid kept hitting the panic button every time they came through the door. Had to rip it off and move it over a foot, which left ugly holes in their nice new drywall. Anybody else have a bad habit they stuck with way too long?

Yeah the "looked clean" part is exactly why I kept doing it too. But after patching drywall for the third time I finally learned my lesson. Now I leave at least a foot gap so my knuckles don't hit the frame every time I go through.

Honestly though, you said "three times" but shah.evan only mentioned doing it twice. Third time was the actual patch job, not the moving part. Not that it matters, just a little off.
