Can we talk about how a raccoon in a Cleveland attic made me stop trusting motion sensors on the first floor
About 6 months ago I was finishing a basic 3 door, 4 window panel job in a ranch house over on the west side of Cleveland. Homeowner kept saying his old system went off at random times at night. I tested everything, walked it like 6 times, clean signals, no faults. Wrote it off as a bad old panel.
Two nights after I left he called me at 11pm, alarm screaming again. I came back the next morning and found a raccoon had been coming in through a soffit gap and tripping the motion in the hallway every single night. Never once hit a door contact.
Since then I will not quote a job with only perimeter sensors on a first floor. Motion has to be part of the package or I walk. Guys tell me I am leaving money on the table but I do not care, I am not getting a 11pm call over a raccoon.
Anyone else have an animal break their install? What did you change after?
