Vent: My torque wrench betrayed me on a 737 brake job yesterday
I was torquing down the main wheel axle nut on a 737 at the hangar in Dallas yesterday, right when I got to 650 foot-pounds my Snap-on digital torque wrench just screamed at me and died. Battery was full, but the display went blank and I had to guess the rest by feel. The plane was due out in 20 minutes so I just sent it, but my foreman gave me the stink eye all shift. Anyone else had a premium tool fail at the worst possible moment?

Dude, your Snap-on digital torque wrench just screamed at you and died" - that is literally my worst nightmare. I had a similar thing happen with my Matco torque wrench last spring on a Cessna landing gear job. I was at that critical final click point and the thing just started beeping a low battery warning, then the screen went totally black. I had to finish torquing by feel too, and I was sweating bullets because that was the main gear bolt. My lead mechanic gave me that same stink eye you're talking about, like I was the one who broke the tool on purpose. Did you send yours back for warranty yet?

Has anyone else noticed that digital torque wrenches seem to die exactly when you need them most, like they have a sixth sense for bad timing? @sandra146 you're spot on about sending it back for warranty, I actually had to send my Snap-on back twice last year for the same blank screen issue and they just kept saying it was a firmware glitch. I'm honestly thinking about switching back to a good old click-style wrench for critical jobs since electronics just can't handle the heat and sweat of a rush job.
