Vent: Found a cracked engine mount on a Cessna 172 last Thursday

It was during a routine 100-hour inspection at my shop near Phoenix. The crack was hidden behind a bracket - anyone else find something scary on a plane that should have been caught sooner?

Nah, I'd rather find it on the ground than have that crack open up mid-flight.

That crack being hidden behind a bracket is exactly the kind of thing that'll keep you up at night. In my experience, those little spots where parts overlap are where the real gremlins like to hide. Was it the kind of crack that only showed up because you removed the bracket, or could you feel it moving when you wiggled the mount by hand? I've seen some mounts that looked fine until you put a good pry bar on them, and then the whole thing would just crumble. Nothing worse than finding something like that on a routine inspection, but at least you caught it on the ground and not at 3,000 feet.
