Tried using a laser bore scope on a hot engine, big mistake in Dallas

Last week I got a wild idea to check cylinder wall scoring right after a run-up without letting the engine cool down. The lens fogged up instantly and the readings were garbage, plus I nearly burned my fingers on the probe housing. Took me 20 minutes to clean the residue off the scope and I still had to wait another hour to do the job properly. Has anyone else made this mistake or do you always let the engine sit overnight before scoping?
