Torqued a landing gear bolt wrong for 4 years until a 737 chief caught it
I always torqued by feel after the click, you know, snug it a little more. This old timer from Delta came over in our hangar in Atlanta last month and watched me do it on a Cessna 172. He says, "son, that click means stop, not keep going." I pulled out the manual and he was right, I was over torquing every single one by about 15%. That extra half turn was bending the bolt threads and I never noticed because nothing snapped. Now I stop right at the click and mark a line on the socket. Anyone else had a habit that took a senior guy to correct you on? Feels embarrassing to admit after all those years.
