TIL you can check a Lycoming oil screen without draining the whole pan
Spent 3 hours last Friday draining oil just to peek at the screen on a 172, then a buddy at the hangar in Reno showed me you can pull the plug and only lose about a quart if you do it cold. Saved me almost 2 hours on the next inspection. Anyone else got a shortcut that sounds sketchy but actually holds up?
