Showerthought: A single Boeing 747 has about 6 million parts, half of which are fasteners
I was reading some old maintenance logs from a retired United guy I know, and he had a note from a 1993 overhaul that mentioned this. 6 million parts. For one plane. And half of them are just screws, bolts, and rivets. That blew my mind. I've been on roofs with maybe a few hundred shingles and felt overwhelmed. Has anyone else run into a stat like that that just made you stop and think about how crazy complex this trade really is?

That "half of which are fasteners" part got me too. Makes you wonder who’s counting all those screws and if they ever lost count.

What's the over/under on how many of those fasteners end up sitting on the hangar floor at any given time? Bet there's a guy in a back room somewhere still hunting for a lost bolt from a '93 overhaul.
