Old inspector told me to stop chasing tenths on torque values
He said anything within 10% is fine for most bolts, just move on. Saved me 20 minutes per job after that. Anyone else have a habit you had to break?.

Stop chasing tenths" really stuck with me too. I used to be the guy cranking on bolts until the display showed exactly the number I wanted, even if it took five minutes of back and forth. But that old timer is right, I've seen plenty of bolts hold just fine at 47 ft-lbs when the spec says 50. Especially on dirty or rusty bolts, that extra precision doesn't matter as much as we think. Now I just hit the range and move on, jobs go way faster and I haven't had a single issue.
