Just realized I've been chasing avionics gremlins the hard way for years
Spent 6 hours on a Cessna 172 chasing a intermittent radio dropout, swapped antennas and coax before thinking to check the ground strap on the engine mount. It was loose the whole time. Has anyone else burnt a whole shift on something that simple?

MAN, you're telling me! I had a similar thing with a Mooney M20 once. The ELT would go off randomly in the hangar at night, scared the crap out of me. Spent a whole weekend tracing every wire in the tail and popping panels. Eventually found the old antenna cable was corroded right at the connector under the headliner. @lucas159 would probably laugh - I swapped the whole antenna and coax kit before I even looked at that damn connector. Ground straps are evil little things, they hide so good.

Intermitent radio dropout" hits close to home. Had a Piper Archer once that would lose the transponder every time I hit turbulence. Chased the wiring for two days. Ended up being a bolt in the tray that was touching the antenna cable. Vibration would make it ground out just enough. Still find myself checking ground straps first now.
