I was dead wrong about digital torque wrenches for years
Back in '98 when I started at the hangar in Memphis, I swore by my old clicker torque wrenches. Thought digital ones were just a gimmick for guys who couldn't trust their own hands. Then about 3 years ago I had to torque a set of main landing gear bolts on a 737 and my old wrench slipped. Borrowed a calibrated Snap-On digital from the lead mechanic and it caught a 5 pound difference I'd have missed. Has anyone else had a tool they resisted for years only to find out it actually works better?

Have you actually had to pull up that data on a failed part yet, or is it more of a peace of mind thing? I'm asking because I've heard the logging feature is only as good as how disciplined you are about keeping the wrench paired with the right job. I've seen guys skip the setup step when they're in a rush, and then the numbers go to the wrong file or get mixed up between aircraft. If you've used it for a real investigation, I'm curious if the saved readings ever pointed to something you wouldn't have caught otherwise.

Jumped into digital torque wrenches myself a few years back and what caught me off guard was the data logging... being able to pull up the exact peak torque reading for every bolt after the job is done helps catch those tiny deviations that add up over time. It's not just about accuracy in the moment, it's about having a record to look back on when something fails down the road.
