Always thought borescopes were extra until I spotted a deep crack nobody else saw.

It was in a spot you just can't see with a mirror. I won't skip that step on an engine inspection now.

Found myself in the same boat last year checking a cylinder. That little camera showed a tiny flaw on a piston crown I would have sworn was clean. Completely changed my mind about them being a luxury item. Now it’s just part of the regular process, like putting on safety glasses. Lets me sleep better knowing I didn't miss something hidden. The upfront cost feels minor compared to the headache it can prevent.

Why do we call tools 'extra' until they catch a problem we missed? This happens all the time, like when people ignore error messages on their devices until they crash. We try to save time by skipping steps, but it usually costs us more later. Having the right tool just shows you what's really there, instead of what you hope is there. It's a small price to pay for not having to fix a huge mistake down the line.
