Shoutout to my air fryer for teaching me about overcrowding the hard way

I kept wondering why my homemade fries were coming out soggy every time. Last Tuesday I crammed a full pound of potato wedges in there because I was in a rush. They turned into a mushy, steamed mess that even my dog sniffed at and walked away. Turns out you gotta leave space between each piece or the air can't circulate. Has anyone else ruined a batch by trying to save 10 minutes?

That exact thing happened to me with sweet potato fries last month. I had 3 sweet potatoes worth of slices all piled in there and they came out like sad, limp noodles. My husband took one bite and said "what are these?" So I had to start over and do them in batches, which took twice as long. Now I always spread things out in a single layer and I don't cram more than a handful in at a time. It's a hard lesson but once you learn it your air fryer actually works like it's supposed to.

The "sad, limp noodles" thing hit too close to home. I did that exact thing with frozen mozzarella sticks once, crammed the whole bag in there like I was feeding an army and they came out all greasy and weird. Now I treat my air fryer like a small toaster oven, I only put in what fits without stacking. Crowding it just turns the whole thing into a steamer instead of a fryer, you know? Single layer and shake halfway through, that's the only way to get that crunch.
