My sister swore preheating was optional, I learned the hard way

She told me tossing frozen chicken tenders straight in was fine, no need to wait. I did it her way last Tuesday and they came out soggy on one side after 12 minutes. Next batch I preheated to 375 for 3 minutes and they were golden and crispy all the way through. Anyone else find that preheating makes or breaks certain foods?

Soggy on one side describes like 80% of my cooking experiments. I once tried to toast a bagel without preheating the toaster and ended up with a warm sponge. Preheating is basically just admitting that your gadget needs a couple minutes to wake up, which is more than I can say for myself before coffee.

A buddy of mine tried to heat up leftover pizza in a cold toaster oven. He just threw it in, set the timer, and walked away. Came back to what he described as a lukewarm rubber disc with a soggy crust that peeled off like a wet band-aid. Spent the next ten minutes scraping melted cheese off the rack with a butter knife. He still talks about it like a war story from some kitchen conflict. Toaster ovens might be helpful, but they need a moment to get their act together.

Totally agree, preheating is non-negotiable for anything crispy.
