My frozen fries were a soggy mess until I saw a comment on a YouTube video

I was making a bag of Ore-Ida crinkle cuts for my kids and they kept coming out limp, no matter how long I cooked them. A guy in the comments of a recipe video said to soak them in hot water for 10 minutes and pat them dry before air frying. I tried it at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, shaking halfway, and they were perfectly crisp. Has anyone else found a weird trick like that for frozen foods?

Soak them in hot water" sounds like the opposite of what you'd do for crispy fries. But I guess the kitchen rule is that if it seems crazy and it works, it's not crazy. My freezer is full of sad frozen foods waiting for their own weird YouTube miracle.

Your freezer is full of sad frozen foods" is the most relatable thing I've read all week, haha. I swear my freezer is a museum of failed intentions, like that bag of tater tots I bought thinking I'd master air frying and then just... didn't. It's nice to know there's always another weird lifehack to give them a shot, though.

Forget soaking, just double fry them like a normal person. How much effort do we really need to put into frozen potatoes?
