Watched my coworker use an AI voice agent for 10 minutes and it handled 3 angry callers back to back

Last Thursday at our office in Austin, our support lead tested this new AI phone agent thing. Three customers called in mad about late shipments. The bot apologized, checked tracking, and offered resolutions. Not once did it say "I understand your frustration" in that fake way. The third caller even thanked it. My boss is now talking about replacing 2 of our remote reps with this. Has anyone else seen these voice AIs actually work in real customer service?

Voice AI has gotten way better at handling tones without sounding like a script. The trick is they don't get defensive or tired so angry people actually calm down faster. Pretty sure we're gonna see more companies swapping out phone reps for these things within the next year.

Honestly, that makes a lot of sense. Customer service is rough, and people are already on edge when they call. Having someone who doesn't take it personally or get worn out probably does help things smooth over faster. My own experience with those automated checkouts at stores showed me that people really just want to be heard without judgment. I can see how a calm, steady voice that never snaps back could calm someone down way quicker than a tired human who's had a long day. It's kind of a win for everyone, as long as the AI actually gets the job done right.
