Warning: I spent months trying to make my own AI image generator from scratch

After burning through about $400 in cloud credits and getting nowhere, a friend in Seattle asked me why I wasn't just fine-tuning Stable Diffusion. That one question made me realize I was stuck in a 'build it all yourself' mindset that was completely wrong for the current landscape. Are we all overcomplicating things when the real innovation is in adapting what's already out there?
