The auto-clip tool was rewriting my prompts for months and I never noticed

I was debugging why my outputs kept losing nuance, then I checked the API logs and saw every prompt got trimmed to 500 characters by a default setting I enabled back in March. Has anyone else had a silent setting mess with their results for that long before catching it?

March 23rd was when I turned on a similar trim setting and it cut every prompt to exactly 400 characters, but I actually liked the results better since it forced me to be more direct. Maybe the real issue is how much filler we put in prompts anyway, not the tool doing its job.
