The $50 fine that made me question my whole AI workflow
Found out last Thursday that my city, Austin, requires a permit for any automated data collection on public streets, and I got hit with a $50 ticket from a parking enforcement camera I was testing. I figured since the tech was public and open source, the rules wouldn't apply. Has anyone else run into weird local laws that just didn't match how fast the tools moved?

“I figured since the tech was public and open source, the rules wouldn't apply” is honestly the most relatable thing I've read all week, because I once got a $30 ticket for setting up a little weather sensor on a public bench. I thought I was being a cool citizen scientist, turns out I was just a dude with a tripod and a rulebook I never read. At least your fine was only $50, I paid mine in taco shame and a very annoyed city worker.

Always the fine print nobody reads until it bites you.
