Taught an AI to spot cracks in my weld photos, it flagged 14 good welds and missed the one that failed inspection
Ran 200 of my old weld shots through it last month after reading these tools could catch flaws better than the eye, and after 3 rounds of tweaking it still flagged 14 solid beads while sailing right past the one that later failed at the shop in Gary, so now I'm wondering if anyone has actually gotten one of these vision models to work on real, ugly, dirty weld pics instead of clean lab samples?

How is this even a big deal though? You ran 200 pics through some free tool you found online and got mad it missed one bad weld. Of course it did, half those pics are probably blurry or covered in spatter and dirt. A model trained on clean lab samples is never gonna read a grimy bead in a dim shop the same way a guy with 20 years of hood time does. Sounds like it caught 186 out of 200, which beats most folks squinting at a screen all day. Maybe just let the machine flag stuff and keep your eyes on the ones that actually matter.
