Picked cloud OCR over local Tesseract, don't regret it

I had to process 12,000 scanned invoices last month and the local setup kept choking on handwriting. Switched to a cloud API and it cut my error rate from 8% to 1.5%, but the per-page cost adds up fast. Has anyone tried a hybrid approach to keep budget in check?

You said the error rate dropped from 8% to 1.5% and honestly that's the whole ballgame right there. Hybrid sounds nice on paper but then you're building a router to decide which pages go where and debugging that mess at 2am. The per page cost is annoying but bad reads cost you more in rework and angry clients. I'd rather pay a few extra bucks than stare at a stack of misread handwriting again. Keep the cloud and eat the cost.
