My manual cost calculations are obsolete after AI tools.

The shift was surprisingly quick.

My buddy Mark does construction bidding and lost a big warehouse job last month. His manual spreadsheet had lumber prices from three weeks prior, but the winning bid used a live AI tracker that caught a price jump the morning bids were due. He said it felt like showing up to a race with a bicycle when everyone else had a sports car. The company that won just had more current data without all the frantic phone calls.

I saw an article last week about a construction firm that cut their estimating time by 80% using an AI tool. It's wild how fast that changed. I used to spend whole afternoons on a single spreadsheet (and probably still got things wrong). Now those same tools can pull current material prices in seconds and adjust for labor. It doesn't just make the old way slow, it makes it kinda pointless because you can't compete with that speed or accuracy. The real question is what we do with all the time we save now.
