Unpopular opinion: hourly billing punishes the fast people on my team
I run a small 6 person shop in Cleveland and last quarter I finally added up how long each task actually takes us versus what we bill, and it turned out our two fastest people were making us less money than our slowest one. We switched to flat project fees in January and the fast folks stopped hiding how quick they finish stuff out of fear of looking light on hours, which honestly fixed more than the money did. How do you all handle this when someone on the team has been burned by hourly rates for years?
