The meeting checklist I thought was helping was actually hurting us for 6 months
I had this checklist I'd run through before every client meeting. Names, project status, budget updates, next steps. Thought it was keeping me organized. Then a client said 'you seem like you're just checking boxes instead of listening to us' and it hit me. My little safety net was making me miss the real issues they were bringing up. Has anyone else had a system or template they thought was professional but actually pushed clients away?

Ask the client straight up if they noticed the change. Like, did you get more honest pushback after dropping the checklist? Or did they just stop complaining because they saw you scrambling? Curious if the improvement was real or just silent tolerance.

A former client of mine gave way more honest feedback once we stopped using a rigid checklist. It felt like they were actually listening instead of just nodding along.
