Rant: I ran every project through Monday meetings for 2 years before I saw my own timesheet
I was holding a 30 minute status call with all 9 people on my team every Monday morning for almost two years, and I honestly thought it was keeping us tight. Then last month my PM added up the numbers and showed me we were burning 4.5 billable hours a week just on those calls, which at our rate is about $900 gone every single week. The thing that really got me was when one of my designers said she saves her real questions for Slack because she does not want to take up call time. So now I am wondering if I should kill the meeting completely or just make it 10 minutes and optional. How do you all handle weekly check-ins without lighting billable hours on fire?
Yikes, two years of that and nobody said a word until the PM did the math? Sounds like the real cost was all those questions your designer was too polite to ask on the call. Kill it and make it a quick 5 minute standup or just move updates to Slack, because a meeting everyone secretly dreads is just a billable hour bonfire.
