Our new project management tool turned into a total mess last quarter

We moved our whole team to a new software platform in January, thinking it would help us track jobs better. The setup took two full weeks and we lost about 40 billable hours getting everyone trained. The worst part was the client reporting feature, which just stopped pulling data correctly after the first month. I had to manually rebuild three client reports from scratch, which took me an entire weekend. The support team kept saying it was a known bug with no fix date. We finally cut our losses and moved back to our old system in March, but the switch cost us real money and trust with a couple of clients. Has anyone else had a software migration blow up like this, and how did you handle the fallout?

My buddy's CRM switch permanently lost client contact info.

That point about permanently lost data like @ericjackson mentioned is what really gets me. It's not just the wasted time and money, it's the permanent damage to your business records. Once that trust is broken with a tool, you can't really go back. I've seen companies try to stick it out with bad software because of the sunk cost, and it just makes things worse every single month. Cutting your losses early like you did was probably the smartest move, even if it hurt at the time.

Software migrations are such a gamble, and losing data like that contact info is the absolute nightmare scenario.
