I used to think hiring fast was the only way to keep up with growth
About 18 months ago, I was rushing to fill a project manager spot and hired someone who looked great on paper. Within a month, the team was frustrated and a key client in Chicago almost left. The new hire just didn't fit our pace. That's when I saw the real cost of a bad hire wasn't just the salary, it was the lost trust and extra work for everyone else. How do you slow down your hiring process without falling behind on work?

My vetting process now involves a coffee run.

Double down on the coffee run thing. I've started doing a mini project together before anyone gets an offer, just to see if we actually click when the pressure's on.

Yeah the "lost trust" part is so real lol. I rushed a dev hire once and my senior engineer almost quit cleaning up the mess.
