Compared Trello vs Asana for my 8 person agency last month and the winner was clear

Tbh I was a Trello loyalist for like 3 years. Boards seemed simple and I thought that was all we needed. But after a project with 6 moving parts and 4 different client approvals, everything started falling through the cracks. I gave Asana a real shot for 30 days and it's not even close. The timeline view alone saved me from having to explain due dates to my team 5 times a day. Plus the custom fields let me tag budgets and statuses without digging through cards. I still miss the drag and drop feel of Trello sometimes though. Has anyone else made the switch and stuck with it or went back?

That 6 moving parts project you mentioned - how did your team actually HANDLE the handoffs between phases during those client approvals? In my experience with running a small crew, that's where Trello boards turned into a total disaster zone. The cards would get buried and nobody knew who had the ball. Did you find Asana's approval workflows made that specific thing better, or was it more about the timeline view keeping everyone honest on dates? I'm curious because I keep hearing people say the tool doesn't matter, it's the process - but it sounds like the tool actually forced a better process for you.

You're absolutely right that Trello can turn into a mess with handoffs. The approval workflows in Asana helped because they made it so the next person couldn't start their part until the previous step was marked done. That forced everyone to actually check things off instead of just moving cards around and hoping for the best. The timeline view was more of a nice to have for planning, but the real game changer was having that clear chain of responsibility. The tool definitely forced a better process there, because without those hard stops people would just skip steps when they got busy.
