Choosing between a niche agency and a full-service shop set me back 9 months
I started my agency in Austin last year and had to pick between focusing only on real estate clients or taking on anyone who paid. I went with the full-service route to keep cash flowing, but now I'm stretched thin with 14 clients across 5 industries and my team keeps reinventing processes. Should I cut down to a niche now, or is that just going to tank the revenue I've built up?
Cutting down doesnt mean dropping everyone at once. Pick the 2 or 3 industries that pay the best and that your team can actually handle without making up new stuff every week. Tell the rest you're moving in a new direction and hand them off or let them go. Yeah revenue dips for a bit, but 14 clients across 5 industries is why your team keeps starting over. Fewer clients in one lane means you can reuse the same playbook, and that alone will make you more money per client than being spread thin ever did.
